OSTRICH
(Struthio Camelis)

Origin and History
Most of the African continent was at one time or another, home to the Ostrich. The Ostrich was a favorite of nobility. The tombs of the Egyptian Pharaohs were inscribed with pictures and held plumage and eggs of the stately Ostrich. Roman Generals and Zulu Warriors alike wore Ostrich feathers. In 1913, Ostrich plumage ranked 4th on the list of South African exports after gold, diamonds and wool.
