Origin and History
Originating from Brazil, Muscovies are the only domestic ducks that is not derived from mallard stock. They are now quite prevalent in the United States and often considered a good meal because of their lean flesh.

Description
Physical

Wild muscovies coloration is black and white, but domestication has produced many different colors. These colors are; blue, blue and white, chocolate, chocolate and white, white, black, black and white, lavender, and calico. Their feet are equipped with strong sharp claws for grabbing tree branches and roosting. Muscovy’s are unique because of their bright red crest around their eyes and above the beak.

 

 

Size

Diet
Depending on their age, these ducks are fed a maintenance ration of pellets and also grains. Fresh water must also be available at all times.

Lifespan
Muscovy Ducks live for 7-8 years.

1. Muscovy Ducks do not swim much because their oil glands are
under developed compared to most ducks.
2. Muscovy hens can set three times a year, and the egg clutches
can vary from 8 to 21 eggs.
3. Unlike most domestic waterfowl, Muscovies will often fly up into a tree and roost.
