Description
Well known for their beautiful plumage and wonderful singing ability, these birds are very popular.
length: 5 - 5 1/2 inches.
weight: 20-22 grams.
lifespan: Females, 5-6 years, Males 10 years.

Diet
Always provide your bird with fresh water daily. Vitamin fortified pellets or seed labeled for Canaries is the recommended staple for these birds. They also eat a variety of sprouts,

 

seeds, nuts, fruits, vegetables, commercial pellets. Fresh fruits and vegetables such as peas, carrots, tomatoes, apples, and bananas are always a welcome food supplement for your canary. Items to avoid: avocado, grapefruit, green beans, all forms of cabbage, lemons, plums, raw and green potatoes, rhubarb, and dried fruits that have been treated with sulphur dioxide. Also provide gravel with oyster shell in it in a separate dish.

Cage Requirements
Be sure to provide a cage with plenty of room for your bird(s) to test their wings. A cage that is approximately 16"x18"x20" (16 inches long, by 18 inches deep, and 20 inches high) is the minimum size recommended for one bird.
