Bourke’s Parakeet
Neophema bourkii
  Description
The plumage of this parakeet is blue to sunset pink in color. This coloration is the exception of its genus in that most other members are mainly green in color.

length: about 7.5 inches.
weight: 42-49 grams.
lifespan: 8-15 years on average.

Diet
Always provide your parakeet with fresh water daily. Vitamin fortified pellets or seed labeled for parakeets is the recommended staple for these birds. Fresh fruits and vegetables such as peas, carrots, tomatoes, apples, and bananas are also a welcome food supplement for your parakeet. Also include a cuttlebone, a beak block, and gravel with oyster shell to provide the proper trace elements and minerals. Items to avoid: avocado, grapefruit, green beans, all forms of cabbage, lemons, plums, raw and green potatoes, rhubarb, and dried fruits that have been treated with sulphur dioxide.

Cage Requirements
Parakeets love to fly so provide a cage with plenty of room for your bird(s) to test their wings. A cage that is approximately 24x24x30 (24 inches long, by 24 inches deep, and 30 inches high) is the minimum size recommended for one bird. A swing and a mirror are also necessities along with 2-3 different size perches.
