Diet
Always provide your bird with fresh water daily. Vitamin fortified pellets or seed labeled for Amazons is the recommended staple for these birds. They also eat a variety of sprouts, seeds, nuts, fruits, vegetables, and commercial pellets, as well as the same nutritional foods humans eat. Fresh fruits and vegetables such as peas, carrots, tomatoes, apples, and bananas are always a welcome food supplement for your amazon. It is also a good idea to provide a mineral block for them to chew on. Items to avoid: avocado, grapefruit, green beans, all forms of cabbage, lemons, plums, raw and green potatoes, rhubarb, and dried fruits that have been treated with sulphur dioxide.

Cage Requirements
Be sure to provide a cage with plenty of room for your bird(s) to test their wings. A cage that is approximately 24”x24"x36" (24 inches long, 24 inches deep, and 36 inches high) is the minimum size recommended for one bird.

  • This is only appropriate as long as the bird has a playpen it can spend most of the day on, but always provide supervision while they are out. A swing is also a good idea, 2-3 perches of varying sizes and shapes are a definite necessity, and lots of toys to chew on!
