Diet
Always provide your parrot with fresh water daily. Vitamin fortified pellets or seed labeled for small hookbills is the recommended staple for these birds. They also eat a variety of sprouts, seeds, nuts, fruits, vegetables, commercial pellets, as well as the same nutritional foods humans eat. Fresh fruits and vegetables such as peas, carrots, tomatoes, apples, and bananas are always a welcome food supplement for your parrot. Items to avoid: avocado, grapefruit, green beans, all forms of cabbage, lemons, plums, raw and green potatoes, rhubarb, and dried fruits that have been treated with sulphur dioxide.

Cage Requirements
Be sure to provide a cage with plenty of room for your bird(s) to test their wings. A cage that is approximately 18"x18"x30" (18 inches long, by 18 inches deep, and 30 inches high) is the minimum size recommended for one bird. This is only appropriate as long as the bird has a playpen it can spend most of the day on. A swing is also a good idea, and 2-3 different size and shape perches are a definite necessity.

Fascinating Facts
1. Parrots love to “chew” so be sure to provide them with lots of toys that they can destroy.
2. Timneh’s don’t tend to talk as much as Congo’s.
3. These birds are native to various parts of Africa including Kenya, Uganda, Liberia, and islands off the west coast of Africa.
